YI QIAO JOINS ZDF

ZDF Enterprises has announced that Yi Qiao has joined their drama team, and is now responsible as director for the acquisition of new drama projects and sales of drama programs for English-speaking territories worldwide, and in Scandinavia. After attaining her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, she worked in various positions. Among other things, Yi Qiao worked for many years in the international sales department of Red Arrow Studios International at various locations. In her last position as Senior Sales Manager for Red Arrow Studios International, she was based in London where she oversaw and had ultimate responsibility for sales targets in the UK, Benelux, Scandinavia, Middle East and Africa.

MIPTV HONORS KOREA

Reed MIDEM has announced that Korea will be MIPTV’s 2020 Country of Honor. The global content market for the future, MIPTV 2020 runs March 30 to April 2, 2020 in Cannes, France. The Korea Country of Honor showcase is sponsored by Korea Communications Commission (KCC), responsible for policies in Korean broadcasting and communications services. With some 19.5 million TV households and 30.8 million pay-TV subscribers, Korea is the most “wired” country in the world in relation to download speeds and streaming content. High smartphone adoption and low-cost subscription services means watching content on mobile devices is widespread, and more and more content is being created for consumption this way.

PROVOCATIVE CRIME DRAMA

She comes face to face with her criminal mother; the source of all her misery. WWII BATTLEFIELD ACTION

Written and directed by Aleksey Sidorov, the World War II action/drama “T-34” stars Alexander Petrov, Irina Starshenbaum, and Viktor Dobronravov. Produced by Leonard Blavatnik and Ruben Dishdishyan for Mars Media Entertainment of Moscow, the Russian film is now available in English. In 1944, a courageous group of Russian soldiers manage to escape from German captivity in a half-destroyed, legendary T-34 tank. What happened next were scenes of unforgettable bravery, fierce fighting, and unbreakable love. Sidorov said the aim of “T-34” was to “tell a war story in a way that attracts young people and does not provoke objections from those who still remember the great patriotic war," as World War II is often referred to in Russia (120’).

FEISTY DINOSAUR

“Kiri and Lou” follows the friendship between Kiri, a feisty little dinosaur and Lou, a gentle and thoughtful creature, as they explore the world of feelings through laughter, song and outdoor adventure. Original and imaginative, series invites children to learn about empathy and how to get along, through warm-hearted and gently humorous storylines which are resonating with audiences of all ages. Hand-crafted in paper and clay and created using traditional stop motion animation. IMPORTANT INVENTIONS

ZDF Enterprises, together with internationally recognized production companies, is starting a new series about the greatest inventions of mankind. “Great Inventions” will be a long-running series explaining what lies behind the inventions which we use every day, and which have shaped our world. The series shows how these breakthroughs came about, how they developed and reveals new stories about their discovery. Production has already begun and the first 35 episodes will be gradually completed between the end of 2019 and the middle of 2020. The first commissioned producers involved in “Great Inventions” are World Media Rights, Off the Fence, doc.station and k22film. Other seasons are already planned. Rights are available for all media worldwide, with ZDF Enterprises responsible for marketing. The subjects of the productions cover an unusually broad spectrum spanning the most diverse areas of interest. Topics range from batteries, beer, cars, combine harvesters, computer games, condoms, the fridge, glass, jeans and lasers to rollercoasters, satellites, the submarine, sun cream, the supermarket, suspension bridges, the Velcro fastener and X-rays (35 x 50’).

DIETRICH BONHOEFFER

Biblical theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed by the Nazis just days before the Allies defeated Germany in World War II. “Hanged on Twisted Cross” is a gripping documentary narrated by Ed Asner captures the life, times, and thought of Bonhoeffer. Using rare archival footage, documents, and visits to original locations, we get an intimate portrait of a man whose life and writings grow in their influence and speak powerfully to issues of our own day some 75 years later (60’).

AMERICAN ARTISANS

In “Lidia Celebrates America: The Return of the Artisans,” a new one-hour special co-produced by WGBH Studio Six and Tavola Productions, Lidia travels to Tennessee, California, Colorado, Michigan, Wisconsin and New Jersey to meet with American makers who are mastering the art of meat curing, coopering, coppersmithing, jam-making, cider-making, and more--and finds out what inspires and fuels them. The American work and education landscapes are evolving, and artisans are gaining in cultural relevance. With a renewed focus on vocational training and working apprentices, artisans and the trades are making a comeback here in the United States. The Return of the Artisans looks at how this new generation of craftspeople is training today. From vocational high schools to apprenticeships to incubator programs, Lidia observes firsthand how young people are looking to artisanal crafts and small business as a fulfilling way to earn their livelihoods, and how many young craftsmen are bringing their skills back to their own communities (60’).
